How to add subtitles to your video on web

Adding subtitles to your videos can enhance the viewing experience for your audience, as it makes the content more accessible and easier to understand. By incorporating subtitles, you can expand your target audience and ensure that your message reaches a wider range of viewers. It's worth noting that many people prefer to watch videos with subtitles, as it allows them to follow along without the need for audio. In this article, we'll explore the benefits of using subtitles and show you how to add them to your videos via web.

Generate subtitles

Select the original language of your video from the available options and begin the process of generating subtitles



You don't need to keep the page open during the generation process as it will continue to run even if you close the page.

After the generation process is complete, you can modify both the timestamps and text of the subtitles items (more about this in Edit paragraph). Also there is three additional options available for managing your subtitles:

Translate transcription. This option allows you to translate the existing subtitles into a different language. Simply click on the "Translate Subtitles" button, and the editor will automatically generate a translated version of your subtitles. You can then review and edit the translation as needed (this option will be discussed in more detail later in the article).

Revert to original. If you've made changes to your subtitles but want to revert back to the original version, you can use the "Revert Subtitles" option. This will discard all changes made and restore the subtitles to their original state. Keep in mind that this will restart the generation process from the beginning.

Remove transcript. If you no longer need subtitles for your video, you can use the "Remove Subtitles" option to delete all subtitle tracks, including any translations. This option will permanently remove the subtitles, and you will be redirected back to the video page. However, you can always come back and generate new subtitles whenever you need them.



By using these options, you can easily customize and manage your subtitles to ensure that they are accurate, relevant, and enhance the viewing experience for your audience.

Editing subtitles

You can edit subtitles in real-time and see the changes reflected in the video player immediately. This allows you to make precise adjustments to the timing and text of your subtitles without the need for constant previewing.

Editing the text of a subtitle item is simple - just click on the text and make the necessary changes. Once you're done, either press the 'Enter' key or click outside of the text field to save the changes. If you change your mind and want to revert to the original text, press the 'Esc' key while editing to discard any changes made. Each text field within the subtitle editor has a limit of 125 characters. While editing, you can keep track of the number of characters used in the top right corner of each subtitle item.



You can adjust the timestamps of the subtitles using the arrow buttons located nearby, with each step representing a 200ms change.




Although the editor displays the video subtitles for the entire duration of the video, it's not possible to move subtitles from one scene to another. Therefore, the timestamp values are limited to the beginning and ending of each scene. To prevent overlapping timestamps in the editor, timestamp editing can be disabled.

Search in subtitles editor

To quickly locate specific phrases or words within your subtitles, you can use the search function. Simply enter a key phrase, and the editor will display the number of matches found. You can then navigate through the search results using the up and down arrows, which will automatically seek the video to the current search result. This feature makes it easy to find and modify specific parts of your subtitles without having to manually search through the entire video.

To close the search function, simply clear the search field and click outside the input field. This will exit the search mode and allow you to continue editing your subtitles.

Translation

As it was told before 'Translate transcription' feature allows you to translate the entire video's subtitles with just one click. The available translation languages are defined in the CMS system. Each translated transcription can be edited separately, without any impact on the original or other translations. The process of editing translated transcriptions is similar to that of editing the original transcription. The difference is that the original text is also displayed alongside the translated text, making it easier to edit the translation.

You can choose which translations will be visible in the final video and make this selection directly from the editor. Regardless of the chosen visible languages, all translations are still available for editing.




Please note that clicking on the 'Translate transcription' option again after editing a translation will not save your changes, and will generate a new translation based on the original subtitles. Therefore, it is important to review and edit the translations carefully before making them visible in the final video.
